Tip #1. Floor machine operators should pay attention to auto scrubbers that require an acid-cell battery. Extending the run life of these batteries is as simple as adding distilled water prior to charging the battery. However, watch the water levels because if the battery gets too full it will boil over causing the frame to get corroded. Also, acid will then leak onto the floors which can result in etching on polished floors and removal of wax.
Tip #2. A good buffer will provide 10 to 15 years of service, and auto scrubbers 7 to 10 years of service, provided they are properly maintained. Pay attention to the periods of time when machines are idle. If water is left inside the tank, or the product is stored in an environment with high levels of moisture in the air, rusting may occur if the machine is made with metal. Also, water left sitting inside of the tank when the machine is idle can emit a foul odor. Users can often find proper equipment storage guidelines in their owner’s manual.
Tip #3. Propane-powered machines of all types should be tested annually to ensure carbon monoxide emissions are within safe levels as defined by state and federal standards.
